Over 1.3 million people were told to evacuate as Typhoon Roke headed toward Japan. As of Tuesday morning (U.S. time), the storm was turning northeastward as it began to interact with stronger winds aloft. Surface winds were 132mph gusting to 161mph causing waves up to 26 feet high. Some decrease in intensity was expected by the time the storm makes landfall near Tokyo.
