There’s lots of snow to get out an play in this weekend. Over half the nation has snow cover according to the latest snow analysis from NOAA. Snow depths over a foot and a half are common in the mountains of the west and from the eastern Dakotas into northern Minnesota.
There’s too much of a good thing in parts of the Pacific Northwest. There, a heavy snow pack is bringing the threat of avalanches. Skiers, backpackers and snowmobilers in this area should check the latest avalanche information before heading out.
Significant snow is expected on Friday in the southern lake effect snow belts of the Great Lakes and across portions of New York state. You can check out updated graphics on NOAA’s site.
