Thousands of dead birds dropped from the sky on New Year’s Eve in Beebe, Arkansas and weather may be to blame. According to one report, biologists found some physical trauma indicative of being hit by hail or lightning. Considering all the reports of severe weather in the south central US on New Year’s Eve there could have been hail and/or lightning in the area.
January 4 Update: Veterinary officials examined the dead birds and believe the birds died after crashing into objects and each other after being frightened by fireworks. You can see the details of their findings here. It looks like severe weather can be ruled out since the storms that produced hail and lightning earlier in the evening had left the area before the birds died.
